One thing we know is that if we approach a great challenge, difficulty or fear defensively, and react habitually, we are less likely to reach a creative solution and more likely to be worked up and worried.

It may sound counterintuitive but in mindfulness practice we are invited to befriend the worry. Welcome it at the door, invite it into the room, treat it kindly and consider it with interest and curiosity. Greetings to ‘I’m going fail at this’, ‘I’m a terrible parent’ or ‘I can’t stand this person for one more minute’. How interesting that you have come to visit. What is this all about?

This practice can increase our capacity to problem solve, find opportunity, feel compassion for ourselves and others and be with fear, guilt, anxiety and stress.
