The time it takes to get back on task after an interruption or switch of thinking to something else.

Neurological science has demonstrated that the human brain is incapable of focusing on two things at once. We think we are holding several tasks in mind but we are actually switching between them. For small tasks the switch cost could be seconds but for the tasks that really matter, strategic thinking, creating, connecting with people, the switch cost is reduced productivity and increased stress.

Make time in your day and your life for intense single-tasking. Set an intention, turn off notifications and settle in to the joy of doing one thing and giving it your full attention.

That one thing could be a work related problem that requires focus or it could also be uninterrupted and undistracted in the moment time with our children.
