New Term, New Beginnings
Welcome to September! it certainly feels like autumn has arrived early as I am writing this and secretly still longing for one of our Indian Summers to arrive.
September always has that feeling of New Year, new beginnings and of course, for parents, the new term. Within the team here we reflect all the stages of parenting, whether we are helping young ones settle at nursery or start reception classes or, packing up overstuffed cars to drive them back to uni, it all represents the ebb and flow of the academic year that most parents are wedded to.
A time for new habits
September also feels like the season of new habits. Much like New Year it can be a time of taking stock after the more flexible summer months and reassessing our lives. The changing of seasons is always a great time for reflection.
Restarting our routines and habits, reviewing those that serve us and those that are now out of date or need a refresh is simply a process of coming back to ourselves with a Beginners Mind.
This September, we invite you, our clients new and old, our subscribers to consider which of your habits have got thrown off track or no longer serve you. Then, letting go of any self-judgement (tell that inner critic to back off) consider your new, more meaningful habits and rituals that serve you at this age and stage of your life and career.
A simple approach
To keep this simple, we would recommend reaching for a journal and simply writing your ‘from’ and ‘to’ shifts: What I’d like to move away from, and what I would like to move towards. It provides a simple map for the shifts you’re wanting to create. And then, you can consider: What new, positive habits will help me to make those shifts?
Don’t rush this process, give it time, return to it, see how things unfold and become clearer and clearer.
An elder once said to me:
“We all fundamentally, know what we want, we just have to listen to ourselves more closely’’
