As many of us come to our last (official) working day of a tumultuous 2020 and limp wearily towards the holidays can we find a way to detach from work and replenish?

Firstly why is this important? Psychological detachment is crucial to our well being. We are not designed to be ‘on’ 24/7 and sustained stress and vigilance leads to burnout. Research shows a strong correlation between detachment from work during off-hours and job performance.

What do you need to do to truly disconnect? Maybe … Put the phone in a drawer, the laptop in the cupboard and set some boundaries around usage.

If you do have to work keep it to specified times rather than having to be vigilant at all times.

Do things that totally absorb you. Perhaps it’s music, a brisk walk, a conversation with a great friend?
